This has been taking time away from my VW's

Post by 76scirocco »

My wife needed an updated CRX for autocross so I picked this up after her other shell was trashed by hail last year. I have been racing this one since I am still waiting on the machine work for my Scirocco engine.

I hauled this 84 CRX DX home last summer and of course waited until it was almost race season this spring before rushing to put it together. I should have been posting this as I went along, but I guess I am kinda lazy. I have a lot of pictures and wiring diagrams to put on here when I have time, but I thought I would post up a teaser since the car finally made top time of the day today (not counting a shifter kart). As it sits right now I have $1600 invested not counting the seat and tires which I stole from my other car.

I plan to clean up the bay, clean up the wiring, and paint the suspension parts this winter when I pull the engine back out for a refresh. I also have a LSD transmission to install. Battery relocation, revised air intake, and finding a HF rack are also on the to do list.

Engine:
D16A1 from 87 Integra
DC Sports header
2" exhaust with Turbo muffler
K&N filter and sewer pipe tubing

Trans:
Stock 87 integra
(still need to install LSD)
Delrin shifter bushing rebuild kit

Suspension:
27.5 torsion bars
ST front sway bar
Ground Control Coilovers w/ 450lb springs
Poly bushings
KYB shocks & struts
Home made camber/caster plates recessed to allow more strut travel
Home made stress bars

Body reinforcement:
3 point front stress bar triangulated to back of engine compartment
Reinforced upper rear spring perches after ground controls punched through body first time
Reinforced panhard bar mount triangulated to body (soon to be tied into rear stress bar)
Plated behind front fenders with 20 gauge sheet metal and reinforced with 3/16th strips

Brakes:
Integra front and rear disc
Goodrich Braided stainless lines
Integra proportioning valve
Hawk HP+ pads

Finished off with a Corbeau Seat

Watched it rip around the track Sunday. It is a quick little bugger.
