I have gotten the bug for another project! Just purchased an Escort SR7 radar detector, it is completely concealed with two lasers (one mounts to rear license plate, other mounts to front). Pretty sweet! I took it to Sound Pro to have them install it and they couldn't figure how/where to mount the laser in the front... Their only recommendation was to take it to the dealership and have them take off the front bumper. Checked with the dealership.. $350 just to take the bumper off

Radar Detector Install Help
Hey guys,
I have gotten the bug for another project! $350 just to take the bumper off
... Not sure what to do, and I was wondering if anyone has done this install or would have a recommendation where to mount this damn thing... Thanks!!!

Re: Radar Detector Install Help
You have holes in your bumper cover from the front plate right? I do and our setup should be similar. I would drill a small hole for wiring behind the plate mount where its hidden, then run the wire and sensor. Seriously, the install guys can't take the 6 bolts out and pull the bumper cover?? I would rethink taking it to them. $350 is nuts, and I am in the wrong business...

$350 is their way of saying we don't want to install your radar detector. Time to learn how to remove your bumper, it's an easy job. I'd help you out if I lived closer.

Re: Radar Detector Install Help
I have done the Escort Passport 9500Ci a few times. Once in a C5 corvette, and and once in an A6 Avant. what do the brackets look like? I can't find a pic on the escort website. Are they liscense plate mountable, or not? Your rear should be a plate mount IIRC. DO you have three sendsors for the front, or just one? Onse suggestion I would have is make sure to disconnect your h/l washer hose first, they break easily!

I have the rear license plate sensor mounted, there is one larger box and another sensor that is smaller that both need to be mounted in the front... I can take pics or whatever.. I am thinking the bumper has to come off... Anyone down for the job?

Re: Radar Detector Install Help
You could do it yourself if you just take your time. I have had the front bumper off of my A6 several times and now only takes me about 30 minutes to take it off. It's seriously 8 bolts on the A6. I would think that the A4 isn't much different.
