I took my car in today for an oil change. My rear brake pads are going out so they quoted me for $216,Oil leaking from my cam tensioner seals - $446, and oil leaking from my output seal on my transmission - $222. So all in all my $79.45 oil change should really equal $963.45. Hopefully I can do most of these fixes myself.

P.S. the car only has 56,975 miles on it.

Ask for Craftsman gift cards, and wait for some sales. You can get most of what you need in one of those good sized mechanics kits. That is what I have at home, and it just keeps getting bigger.....

Has anyone ever used Kobalt tools? and do they work?

Ive lightly used kobalt and like them. They have a nice feel to them and work well.

Hey man, a lot of us have tools and we usually don't mind helping a brother out.

It is a new Audi though so my tools can be of help but not myself lol.

What set should I buy, what type of tools should be in the set, I know metric, but should I focus on more sockets, then end wrenches or should I get both. I have a small set, but I need more and was just wondering for our cars what sizes and kind of wrenches you guys use more. I'll look at getting either a Crafstsmen or a Kobalt, but they are expensive for the big kit, so I want to get the best variety I can. What is the smallest yet most effective set I can buy. At least for now.

If all you are working on are dubs, then don't even bother with Standard tools. Just go foe metric. I have multiple thousand of dallars in tools and maybe 5 percent are Standard..

For the most I'll be working on my VWs, so are there kits that ofer just metric kits? There are kits that have both sockets and wrenches aren't there?

I'll have to go to Sears and look at the Craftsmen kits.
