So, the other day I was driving up to Missoula to go buy 2 more books for a grand total of $248...

As I was getting to the last light in Lolo, it was red, so I stopped at it.. amazing eh? So as I go to take off, 1st gear, 2nd gear, 3rd gear GRINNDDDDDDDDD, try again, GRINNNNNNNNDDD..

At that point I'm like.. wtf... Pull over, check shift linkage, everything is fine, take off again, try to shift into 3rd, just grinds...

So I guess the syncro failed now. Never heard of a syncro just failing like that, but that's my luck. Shifted perfectly up to then. Was supposed to be a new syncro. Now I get to pull the trans a... I lost track, fuck it how, many times.

Oh well, pos. At least I won't be selling it.

BTW, driving with no 3rd gear isn't fun.

I'm going to order the rest of the syncros when I get it apart since I might need to order shims too for the pre-load.

thats sucks. I know the 2nd and 3rd synchros are going out in mine.

I thought vw's grinding gears was normal . 1st to 2nd seems to grind at the most inopportune times. Slow shift away from a stop light...blammm grind.

LOL mine seems to grind when im lazy and dont push the clutch in all the way.

probably pull it apart this christmas break.

On another note, I need a new headlight switch.. $120. what a load.

Going to tear into the pos this week.

Got my TDI Fifth gear. .744. Should net me a 400rpm drop over what I have now.

Got the transmission pulled out today. 3 hours, I was slacking.

Also, when I drained the transmission oil, I think I might have other problems besides a syncro.. It was black, and metallic.. good thing I ordered every bearing.
