Ok, so Chris is correct - you need it scanned. There are probably stored codes that will indicate the problem, or show a condition of what the problem could be. However it won't throw a code for a slipping clutch, you just need to know what that feels like.
So, get it scanned -> copy/paste the results in the VAG-COM category and we can do an e-diagnosis....

ill let you know when it comes on again cause chances are it will it goes on and off about every 500-1000 miles.

Like I said earlier the code will be stored in the ECU even with the CEL not lit up. Comprende?

I think it depends on the code. Like if its an emissions related code it will go away after a certain number of key cycles. I could be wrong
Or.. if you unhooked your battery at any time the codes will be cleared.
