Re: VR6 Caddy Build

I did get the mkIII upper shock mounts welded into place and the middle subframe mounts bolted down. Position is good front to back and side to side, but I will need to shim and grind a bit for hood clearance. And then it sat in the snow all winter and we played hockey and ski'd. I noticed our new d...

Re: VR6 Caddy Build

Have you looked into reducing the motor mounts? Thanks for reminding me about that option. Yes, I have seen this done with mixed reviews on the driveline/A-arm result and handling. Right now I have the jig completed for the middle mounts and it fits. I need to install it with some welding and check...

I look forward to checking out the Jetta sometime.
Sorry I missed everyone at the YNP, but It seems to be All-star baseball for us for a while.

Re: VR6 Caddy Build

Thanks for that build thread Brandon. Its a long one... lots of interesting ideas. Well I have been picking away at a lot of prep work in my spare time. Learned to use the MIG and used it on the truck to get the front subframe mounting points ready. Yestarday I got a few hours in the morning to prep...

Re: HOW TO: build golf country..... KEVIN!

This one was on Ebay a few weeks ago. It went on an around the world trip to wind-up in BC Canada. Lots of sweet pics. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120418039471&viewitem= I have seen complete syncro drive train set-ups sold out of Canada in the past and then ...

Re: TO GIVE AWAY!! Mechanics clothing!!

I will be around for events after the cruise.
If someone else claims them before we meet up, it's my loss.
Thanks, Jim

Re: TO GIVE AWAY!! Mechanics clothing!!

I think I need a set of coveralls. The 46 might fit. So far, I have set myself on fire grinding on the MK1 (burned a nipple) . Gave myself an artificial sunburn learning to weld with the MIG. And today I got lots of little burns on my forearms and showerd myself with sparks cutting off the top...

Re: VR6 Caddy Build

It's a Clarke 130EN set-up for gas or no gas... it is fan cooled and has a 40% duty cycle, 120volt like yours. I picked it up at Murdochs for $299 came with a nice rolling cart and every extra you would need to plug and go. Nice grounding clamp and cord lengths. I was just looking, but it was $100 o...

Re: VR6 Caddy Build

I'm back...
Been cutting and grinding on the Caddy to make sure the VR6 and subframe have some wiggle room.
Bought a welder today, a wire feed MIG and will try it out tomorrow.
I will just practice on some scrap till I get good with it.

Re: Name that problem

The problem is that I have not been spending quality time with my VW.
